Multumesc” Profesorul James Kuffner, cercetator la Google si la institutul de robotica Carnegie Mellon, il va inlocui pe Rubin in departamentul de robotica de la Google care a achizitionat mai multe companii din domeniu in ultimii ani, inclusiv Boston Dynamics in 2013. Kuffner a petrecut 5 ani la un proiect pentru masinile care sunt conduse singure si mai bine de 7 ani la Carnegie Mellon. Noul incubator de startupuri al lui Rubin se va concentra pe companiile noi care dezvolta tehnologie hardware noua. Rubin a parasit Apple in 1992 mergand la Danger, creatorii smartphone-urilor branduite SideKick si care a fost achizitionat mai tarziu de Microsoft, si apoi la Android in 2013. Cofondatorii Google, Page si Sergey Brin, au cumparat Android in 2005 fara sa-i spuna lui Eric Schmidt, cel care era pe atunci seful executiv al companiei. La Google, ca sef al Android, Rubin si-a facut o reputatie dupa ce a izolat echipa Android de Google, mentinand-o precum o companie separata intr-una mare. Grupul Android avea, de exemplu, propria cantina in campusul Google. Spiritul sau antreprenorial si dragostea pentru robotica l-au indepartat de Google si acum are propriul incubator, unde va ajuta sa creasca noi tehnologii din perspectiva hardware.
